Proclamation in Honor of Parents Day 2020

WHEREAS:	Throughout history, the family has stood as the most fundamental institution with the parent-child relationship forming the most powerful of human bonds; and

WHEREAS:	As teachers, guardians and mentors to their children, parents perform the most important role in a child’s development helping shape the character of those who will be the future of our nation.  Through love and commitment, parents inspire their children to realize their dreams and lead them to become successful and responsible adults; and

WHEREAS:  	It has been shown that a high level of parental involvement has been associated with lower levels of child delinquency, better mental health, and leads to higher levels of academic and economic achievement; and

WHEREAS:  	In an effort to recognize the importance parents have in the lives of their children and the future of our country, Congress unanimously passed a bill in 1994 to create a national observance for parents.  This bill was signed into law on October 14, 1994 by President Bill Clinton; and

WHEREAS:	The goal of this observance is to recognize, uplift, and support the role of parents in the rearing of children and to encourage parents throughout our nation to do all they can to sustain good relationships with their children; and
